About the service
How does MoveSorted work? +

MoveSorted is simple. You tell us your old and new address, choose which organisations you want us to notify, and sign a Letter of Authority giving us permission to act on your behalf.

We then contact each organisation through their preferred channel — online forms, written letters, or telephone — and update your address for you. You receive email updates as each one is completed.

How long does the whole process take? +

Most updates are completed within 5 working days. However timescales vary by organisation:

  • DVLA, Electoral Roll, TV Licence — typically 1-2 days
  • Council Tax — typically 2-3 days
  • Banks and financial institutions — 3-5 days
  • NHS GP surgery — up to 2 weeks in some cases
  • Utility companies — up to 5 working days

We recommend setting up Royal Mail redirection alongside MoveSorted as a safety net while updates are processed.

What is a Letter of Authority and why do I need to sign one? +

A Letter of Authority (LoA) is a legal document that authorises MoveSorted to act on your behalf when contacting organisations. It's simply a formal way of saying "I give permission for MoveSorted to update my address with these organisations."

Without a signed LoA, organisations are legally required to only accept address changes directly from the account holder. Your LoA is what makes our service legally valid.

We will email you your LoA after you submit your details. It takes under 2 minutes to sign and return.

Which organisations do you update? +

We update 40+ organisations across all areas of your life including:

  • Government — HMRC, DVLA, Electoral Roll, Council Tax, TV Licence, DWP
  • Health — NHS GP, dentist, optician, pharmacy
  • Financial — banks, mortgage providers, pension providers, insurance
  • Utilities — gas, electricity, water, broadband, mobile
  • Education — children's schools, nurseries
  • Subscriptions — Amazon, streaming services, loyalty cards
  • Work — employer/HR, professional bodies

You choose exactly which organisations you want us to notify — you're always in control.

Can you update my bank account address? +

Yes — we send a formal notification to your bank on your behalf using your signed Letter of Authority. Most banks will then process the change directly or write to you asking you to confirm the update for security purposes.

We always recommend also updating your address directly through your banking app as this is the quickest method. We'll send you step-by-step instructions for your specific bank.

Pricing & plans
What's included in the free Basic plan? +

The Basic plan lets you choose any 3 organisations for us to notify completely free. It includes your Letter of Authority, personal email updates, and completion within 5 working days.

It's perfect for trying the service or if you only need the most essential updates done.

What's the difference between Standard and Family? +

Standard (£9.99) covers one person moving home — 40+ organisations updated for you individually.

Family (£14.99) covers up to 4 family members moving together — everyone gets 40+ organisations updated for one single payment. It also includes children's school and NHS updates. It's significantly better value if more than one person in your household needs their address updated.

What does Premium include that Standard doesn't? +

Premium (£24.99) includes everything in Family plus:

  • Priority 24-hour case start — we begin work the next working day
  • Written confirmation obtained from every organisation
  • Direct phone support — you can call us directly
  • Business address updates included

It's ideal for people who need everything done quickly and want full written proof of every update.

Can I add more organisations after I've submitted? +

Yes — simply email us at hello@movesorted.uk with the additional organisations you'd like us to contact. If the additions are within your plan's scope we'll add them at no extra charge. If they exceed your plan we'll let you know and you can upgrade if needed.

Data & security
Is my personal data safe with MoveSorted? +

Absolutely. We take data security very seriously. MoveSorted is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO Registration: ZC126924) and operates in full compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Your data is stored securely, encrypted, and only used for the purpose of updating your address. We never sell your data to third parties and we never use it for marketing without your explicit consent.

How long do you keep my data? +

We retain your data for 2 years after your address change is complete, after which it is securely deleted. Payment records are kept for 7 years as required by HMRC.

You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing hello@movesorted.uk — we will respond within 30 days.

Who can see my personal information? +

Only MoveSorted staff handling your case can access your personal information. Your data is shared only with the organisations you specifically authorise us to contact — and only the information they need to update your address.

We never share your data with any other third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Legal requirements
Is it a legal requirement to update my DVLA address? +

Yes — you are legally required to keep your driving licence address up to date. Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to £1,000. You must also update your vehicle logbook (V5C) separately — this is also a legal requirement.

This is one of the first things we take care of for you.

What happens if I don't update my car insurance address? +

Failing to update your car insurance address can invalidate your policy entirely. In the event of an accident, your insurer could refuse to pay out if they discover your address was incorrect. Your postcode also affects your premium — so your policy may need to be repriced.

We notify your insurer as a priority to protect you from this risk.

Do I need to do anything myself? +

For most organisations we handle everything. However a small number of sensitive accounts require you to complete the update yourself due to their strict security requirements:

  • HMRC — requires your Government Gateway login (we send you a step-by-step guide)
  • Universal Credit — must be updated via your UC online journal (we guide you)
  • Some banks may ask you to confirm the change via your app for security

In all these cases we will send you clear, simple instructions so you know exactly what to do.

Can you help with a business address change? +

Yes — we have dedicated business packages starting from £49. We handle all the complexity of a business relocation including Companies House, HMRC business records, VAT registration, supplier notifications, staff records and more.

Yes — we offer white label partnership packages for estate agents, conveyancers and removal companies. You offer the MoveSorted service to your clients under your own brand, and we handle all the technology and processing behind the scenes.
